On The Beach
On the beach in Matagorda, the day after Chris’s birthday, the waves were beautiful. I paddleboarded and Chris played on his shortboard. After paddleboarding for a while, I collected all kinds of seashells. Right now I am drawn to all of these navy and white seashells. I don’t know yet what I’m going to do with them, but I’m sure something will come up. For now they are displayed in a vase on the fireplace. Along with a little piece of driftwood. I spend so much time in the water, that it’s easy to forget the shoreline. When I picked up that driftwood, I remembered making silver earrings a few years…

Beach Reset
Going to the beach for a day is a great way to press the reset button on your routine. a beach reset, if you will. With distance and space for reflection, there is room for a shift in perception. When you return, you can see your world with new eyes and new understanding, as your old assumptions fall away. And if you’re ready, there may be change. Usually it takes a long time for an old behavior to die, but when it does we don’t feel a loss because the way has already been paved for a new one. We feel it as a relief. I can’t wait. I like to take…

Beach Style for Cooler Days
During Spring, beach weather can quickly change from bright and sunny to cooler temps. Or it will even be both at the same time! I like to keep a few essential layering items on hand for beach style for cooler days. These can easily be paired with anything. First, keep the colors neutral and light. As the sun peeks in and out from behind clouds, you won’t have to peel any layers off. Also bring a lightweight natural fiber sweater with an open knit. The wind is usually blowing at the beach, and you want a sweater that will breathe enough to keep you cool, but warm enough to protect you from wind chill. This…

Stand Up and Paddleboard
Chris and I finally broke away from work life to go down to Matagorda together with the new stand up paddleboard. Since he just started a new job in Port La Vaca, he is down there almost every day. But for me, I am so busy with my job, yoga teacher training, and renovating the house, that it has been a while. The drive never bothers us. It’s only about an hour an a half to the beach, and Chris and I like taking the time to talk about this and that – local histories, photography, side-adventures. The water is almost warm enough to go in without a wetsuit. We…

On the First Day of Spring
‘As the saying goes: “Argue for your limitations and you get to keep them.”’ – Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear I’ve been thinking about this quote a lot lately – I’m actually loving this entire book. It is so inspirational for me! I’ve been acquiring many books lately through yoga teacher training recommendations. For many of them, I only have time to thumb through, grasp the big picture, and store away for later when I will be able to take the time to read through them word for word. Big Magic is a great book to read in this way though, because you read a passage and then break away to go…
