Matagorda Surfing + Nothing But Blue Skies
These are a few more waves from Matagorda surfing in July. We were able to go out on the jetties and the beach! I caught a few really long waves, and of course Chris caught every one that came along. The waves were long and powerful, if choppy from an offshore wind. When I first went out, it was hard to keep the board straight. The current was coming from so many different directions. You can kind of see it in all of that white water. But once I caught a wave, it was powerful enough that I didn’t have to worry about that anymore. The water is shallow near…

Matagorda Surf + Sun
We found some Matagorda surf, and sun, on Sunday and Monday. What better way is there to spend a long weekend? We met up with friends, too, so it was in good company. With fireworks. There were waves, sure, but too much wind! When it’s too windy, the waves are choppy like a dishwashing machine. How to begin at the end? This weekend’s photos are in reverse, with the middle of the plot in the beginning, the beginning AND the end at the end. I’ve been into narrative literature lately, so I’m thinking about these things. Interested? Check out Narratology by Mieke Bal and Reading for the Plot by Peter Brooks. So windy…

Ride the Wave + Restorative Yoga
“Be at least as interested in what goes on inside you as what happens outside. If you get the inside right, the outside will fall into place.” – Eckhart Tolle This weekend I completed Restorative Yoga Training at Joy. The teacher leading the training, Brittany Kraft, talked about how the body has waves that you move with. For example, there’s a healthy wave at the cervical spine, the thoracic spine, the lumbar spine, and the sacrum. You don’t want to develop totally straight spine, especially not at the cervical space by your neck. Keep that in mind when you hear “lengthen your spine” or “lengthen through the crown of your head”. Most…

Eyelet Lace Tanks: Prettiest Ways to Wear White
How cute are these shorts with this white eyelet lace tank, though? As it gets warmer in Houston, my clothes get lighter. I can’t tell you how much white I’ll wear between now and September. And then black. I’m a bit of a minimalist-closet girl. My sister and I laugh about how it is when you go to the beach. When you first drive up, you look really cute and are mesmerized by the beautiful scenery. But then, the windy weather. The beach is really no place for cuteness, or structured blue lace shorts. It can only last for about a minute or so. This is really a little too well…

Big Animal Sandcastles in the Night
Look at these big animal sandcastles! Leaving the beach at the end of the day is always an adventure. After everyone has trickled away at dusk, we stay on for some stargazing or to build a fire. As we make our way down the shoreline back to the road, the headlights of the car illuminate the strangest things in the dark. We drove straight past this absurdly large game of cat and mouse and almost missed it in the blackness, but then we looped around for a second look at mystery. Look at the level of detail here! Someone collected small colored seashells to inlay them like mosaic and give…
