Tamarindo Sunsets
If you’ve ever visited Tamarindo, Costa Rica, you must have experienced the breathtaking view of the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean. Tamarindo sunsets have a flair for drama, washing everything with red and orange before quickly sinking on the horizon. Since the sun sets very early around six, everyone is still up and about to see the spectacle. Nature can be such a drama queen. In looking through my photos from our trip to Tamarindo, I do wish I had carried my camera or my phone around more. This always happens. Tamarindo Crocodile: El Pocho? Is That You?
One of the only things to beware of in Tamarindo are the crocodiles by the river mouth. As you walk all the way north on the beach, you’ll come upon a river running into the bay where you can hop on a boat for an estuary tour or taxi to the less-touristy Playa Grande. What else lies under this water? The Tamarindo crocodile, who some may call El Pocho. The original El Pocho was a famous American (not United States, American) crocodile who found his way to Costa Rica and was discovered by Gilberto “Chito” Shedden in Siquirres near death on a river bank after being shot in the eye.…

OMW: Costa Rica Flight
It’s been a little quiet on the blog this week – I’m in Costa Rica! What a dream. I’ve been surfing every day and exploring the town in Tamarindo, so there’s plenty to share when I’m back in the states and make the time for it. We took a direct Costa Rica flight into Liberia last Friday, and then drove to Witch’s Rock Surf Camp. Southwest Airlines added flights to Costa Rica from Houston not too long ago, so it was only a few hours to travel. It’s faster and more affordable for us to fly here than to California.
