Times Square is visually the loudest, most recognizable corner of New York crammed full of tourists. Times Square may be most well-known as the place to catch the best Broadway shows, do a little shopping, and have a big bite to eat. Here’s a list of my slightly less common top three things to do in Times Square (without spending toooooooo much time there).
- Listen to the Public Piano. The city currently has a public program where a piano sits in the middle of Times Square. Anyone can sit down and let out a tune. I love being surprised by music from strangers.
- Spin on a Dreidel Chair. Maybe these are for kids, and maybe they’re totally dirty and full of germs, but they sure do look fun!
- Midnight Art Installation. Every night at midnight this summer, the big plasma screens with various corporate advertisements flip over to an art installation. How sublime. Don’t miss it!
Times Square wouldn’t be my first choice for locale, since I’m not that big on crowds. When I visited Manhattan this time, I ended up staying right there where my conference was and ventured through a few times. A little later in the evening, it’s easier to navigate. And it’s certainly an eyeful!
What are your favorite things to do in Times Square? I’m open to any suggestions for my next visit <3
