Dog Days, Golden Surf
It’s officially August, and the dog days of summer are here. These are the hot sultry, lazy days. The beach landscape is filled with vibrant blue and bleached white everything from cloudless skies, but on most days the sunny lows make the wind and surf as listless as everything else. When an unexpected offshore wind popped up last weekend, we headed down. The surf was chunky, choppy, and unforgiving, but it was nice to get out and get stoked for a bit. Lingering Summer Surf
Never change, stay the same. Lately we’ve been wistful to leave the beach at dusk. Chris is always the last one out of the water. It’s never really a good idea to stay in the water after dark. The water cools down and this is feeding time for sharks. Even though sharks aren’t likely to bite – they don’t like the taste of humans – it’s better not to risk it. Sharks have poor eyesight. Add the low visibility of the murky Gulf and you can’t really be surprised if a shark accidentally chomps you. But the golden hour is the best time for photographs. We don’t have anything else…

Small Wave Date
The waves were small today, but the weather made up for it. Lots of longboarders came out, but there wasn’t much more than shorebreak. Early on and mid day Chris and I paddled out and caught some really fun waves together. Same wave <3. Such Party. Chris was walking all over his board, which I love because he puts his hands up like a bird. He also spent some time on the shorebreak, and I got a little closer while I could to fill the camera frame. Shore Break Saturday
Here’s what International Surfing Day looked like. The waves were pretty small! I paddled out for a little bit, but it was more floating than catching the waves. Chris surfed the shore break for a while. I caught a few there. The waves break really fast, but if you stay on the back of the board it helps keep the nose from going under when the wave breaks. Chris made this awesome GoPro video of Surfside with his new grill cam mount. The grill cam is a little more efficient to manage time with an oncoming wave than the GoPro surf mount, and it floats!
