Board Shaping with Robert August
During our stay in Tamarindo, we had the opportunity to attend a board shaping demo with Robert August. You may have heard of him from the movie Endless Summer, which he and his friends filmed while surfing across the world. Robert August spends most of his days now in Tamarindo, in addition to traveling here and there. If you ever get the chance to meet him, he’s very friendly and a vivid storyteller. Robert grew up in California, and was lucky enough to have a dad who would make surfboards for him. So he was raised watching boards morph from heavy boat-like pieces of hardwood to the lightweight, finned and…
Tamarindo Sunsets
If you’ve ever visited Tamarindo, Costa Rica, you must have experienced the breathtaking view of the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean. Tamarindo sunsets have a flair for drama, washing everything with red and orange before quickly sinking on the horizon. Since the sun sets very early around six, everyone is still up and about to see the spectacle. Nature can be such a drama queen. In looking through my photos from our trip to Tamarindo, I do wish I had carried my camera or my phone around more. This always happens. When we’re in the moment, I just want to let life be and not have the constant need…
OMW: Costa Rica Flight
It’s been a little quiet on the blog this week – I’m in Costa Rica! What a dream. I’ve been surfing every day and exploring the town in Tamarindo, so there’s plenty to share when I’m back in the states and make the time for it. We took a direct Costa Rica flight into Liberia last Friday, and then drove to Witch’s Rock Surf Camp. Southwest Airlines added flights to Costa Rica from Houston not too long ago, so it was only a few hours to travel. It’s faster and more affordable for us to fly here than to California. Can you believe it? Plus, the water is warmer and we…
May Mood Board: Stand Up, Get Stoked
This May mood board: stand up and get stoked. All I can think about is how I’m flying out to Costa Rica for a surfing trip on Friday morning. This trip has been so long coming! There is so much packing and preparing to do still, but I think it will be ok. Since there still hasn’t been a day off for me since the opera, I haven’t really found the time I would have liked to prepare the house, let alone work on the blog. I promise I’ll be better about posting in June once my life slows down a little. In the meantime, I’m wondering if I should…
Matagorda Spring Surf Breakers
Last weekend the beach was so crowded with Spring Breakers! It was cool to see so many people having such a good time out there, even if the shoreline did get really full. We had to drive foreeeeever to find a space we fit in, but luckily Chris has his cute little white-top FJ to 4×4 us wherever we need to go to find the right waves. We hadn’t been to the beach together since the cloudy day in Galveston surfing in the fog after Christmas. It had been too long! Between our busy schedules and disorganized weekend waves, there just wasn’t a good day until now. Welcome to the…
