Chris and I finally broke away from work life to go down to Matagorda together with the new stand up paddleboard. Since he just started a new job in Port La Vaca, he is down there almost every day. But for me, I am so busy with my job, yoga teacher training, and renovating the house, that it has been a while. The drive never bothers us. It’s only about an hour an a half to the beach, and Chris and I like taking the time to talk about this and that – local histories, photography, side-adventures.
The water is almost warm enough to go in without a wetsuit. We brought my new paddleboard out, and it is totally awesome! I’m definitely still getting the hang of it. It is so different from standing on a surfboard. I did recently buy the Ultralite Bulletproof Stand Up Paddle with an adjustable grip, and it is also totally awesome! It’s super light, and I like that Chris and I can each adjust the handle to the height we need.
Chris is getting the hang of the stand up paddleboard a little more quickly than I am. He has amazing balance.

Also, it’s his birthday! I gave him a set of drums for his birthday (not pictured), and this trip was a special birthday weekend for him. I brought cupcakes from Tout Suite and we stayed in a lodge nearby called Cattails, which it turns out has the best coffee in Matagorda and a super cute gift shop. They were great about accommodating our last-minute reservation by phone, and we were able to stay on the beach for this beautiful sunset before heading back to check in to our room.
