On the beach in Matagorda, the day after Chris’s birthday, the waves were beautiful.
I paddleboarded and Chris played on his shortboard. After paddleboarding for a while, I collected all kinds of seashells. Right now I am drawn to all of these navy and white seashells. I don’t know yet what I’m going to do with them, but I’m sure something will come up. For now they are displayed in a vase on the fireplace. Along with a little piece of driftwood.
I spend so much time in the water, that it’s easy to forget the shoreline. When I picked up that driftwood, I remembered making silver earrings a few years ago from driftwood. The wood burns easily in a kiln. Putting silver clay on the wood gives it the texture of the driftwood, which is lovely in an organic way that I didn’t appreciate as much when I made it.
The weather has flooded the shore recently, flushing big seashells freshly up the beach past the dunes and baking them in to the sand. Further up where the dune grass grows, they loosen up under the softer sand and begin to sift below the surface.
At the end of the day, it started to get a little chilly and Chris built a fire. From scratch. He’s so handy and manly.
