West Coast In Flight
I recently flew to Palm Springs for a work conference, eTail West. An early morning plane flight gets me every time. I love feeling the earth drop away behind me as the plane lifts into the air, and the peacefulness of rolling clouds below. I was on the red eye, so I kept drifting in and out of sleep. Where Are Texas Waves?
Do people even surf in Texas? Where are Texas Waves? I hear this all the time. Or jokes about how there are no waves or surf in the Gulf. It’s true, most days the Gulf has waves that are much weaker than the big ocean waves in Hawaii. The Gulf’s waves are always weakened by the Caribbean islands. But Texas has a lot of surfers. Chris says it has more days with surfable waves than many of the popular surf spots on the East coast because of the Gulf current patterns. Texas surf is burly, with short powerful waves that can be difficult to paddle out through. But they are waves!…

Dog Days, Golden Surf
It’s officially August, and the dog days of summer are here. These are the hot sultry, lazy days. The beach landscape is filled with vibrant blue and bleached white everything from cloudless skies, but on most days the sunny lows make the wind and surf as listless as everything else. When an unexpected offshore wind popped up last weekend, we headed down. The surf was chunky, choppy, and unforgiving, but it was nice to get out and get stoked for a bit.
