Lingering Summer Surf

Never change, stay the same. Lately we’ve been wistful to leave the beach at dusk. Chris is always the last one out of the water. It’s never really a good…

    DIY Macrame Hanging Chandelier Lampshade

    /

A few motifs for this lampshade chandelier: the shapes that I think are elegant in this lampshade are the flower of life and infinity shapes. The flower of life shape can be achieved by a closely woven together double half hitch. It looks like circles layered over each other. The infinity shape comes from a double josephine knot. Mississippi Civil Rights Museum Opening

    /

I’m so grateful to have been able to attend the opening of the Civil Rights Museum in Mississippi last weekend, along with my family. This is my grandmother, Harriet Causey DeCell Kuykendahl, who is an amazing woman. She was a teacher in Yazoo City, Mississippi, teaching all levels and focusing on college prep and English. My grandfather, Herman Brister DeCell, was one of the U.S. State Senators who passed integration in Mississippi. When he was a young man he was drafted to serve in World War II. Upon returning, he finished his university studies in Mississippi followed by a law degree from Harvard and returned to Mississippi to practice. My…

Hello!

Artist and writer in Houston, painting my way through a slower kind of life. Likely By Sea is where the studio spills into everything else — watercolor and process, slow craft, whole-food cooking, coastal days, and the small style-and-living notes in between. Trained as a fine artist; the rest just follows the same eye.
