    The Moon and Surfing

The Gulf waves were beautiful again in Surfside. Chris says it’s not often that this late in July we get these big gentle rolling waves with just enough power to surf and time to bask in the sun at the third sandbar. I spent most of the day surfing, but caught Chris’s story on this wave. It was a day for old school, leathery surfers on longboards. However old they may look, they are in better shape than me. This surfer has a campy style. I think he was the one who surfed a few headstands. At the end of the day we stayed past sundown for the first time…

    Small Wave Date

The waves were small today, but the weather made up for it. Lots of longboarders came out, but there wasn’t much more than shorebreak. Early on and mid day Chris and I paddled out and caught some really fun waves together. Same wave <3. Such Party. Chris was walking all over his board, which I love because he puts his hands up like a bird. He also spent some time on the shorebreak, and I got a little closer while I could to fill the camera frame.  The shorebreak trick of the day that everyone was doing was to walk to the end of the board to get it to…

    Shore Break Saturday

Here’s what International Surfing Day looked like. The waves were pretty small! I paddled out for a little bit, but it was more floating than catching the waves. Chris surfed the shore break for a while. I caught a few there. The waves break really fast, but if you stay on the back of the board it helps keep the nose from going under when the wave breaks. Chris made this awesome GoPro video of Surfside with his new grill cam mount. The grill cam is a little more efficient to manage time with an oncoming wave than the GoPro surf mount, and it floats! That’s one of the latest Julep…

    How to Care for Orchids

Orchids! The other day my sweet boyfriend brought me home an orchid. I love orchids, and this one was my favorite shade of purple. You might have had a similar plant before, and thought that you couldn’t keep it alive. Orchids can be a little finicky, but like any plant they will stay alive if you know how to care for them properly. First, don’t repot the orchid in soil. The natural habitat for orchids is actually the rainforest. They grow on the side of trees, not in the ground. If you absolutely have to repot the flower, plant it in loamy cactus soil, rather than regular potting soil. Orchids don’t…
