    Snow Moon Penumbral Lunar Eclipse

    /

Did you get a chance to catch the penumbral lunar eclipse last weekend? The February full moon is also known as the Snow Moon in Native American folklore, since it happens during the snowiest month of the year. The penumbral eclipse passed so quickly it was easy to miss! Texas is on Central Time, so we saw it at around 6:30pm Friday when I was just barely getting out of dance class. The Snow Moon lunar eclipse was particularly hard for me to catch because of the cloudiness of Houston skies. Chris caught this awesome pic while he was driving up from Port Lavaca though, capturing the red-tinted shadow moon…

    DIY Succulent Terrarium

    /

The weather is almost warm enough outside to start gardening. In the meantime, if your green thumb feels itchy make a fun diy succulent terrarium for your desk or kitchen windowsill. Since the beach is my favorite place to spend the day, this succulent terrarium diy has a beachy vibe to it. If you can’t bring yourself to the beach every day, bring the beach to you. The gardening market has so many unique glass containers perfect for terrariums these days – diamond shapes, buoyantly hanging bulbs, concrete-floored fishbowls. The whatever-hedrons are my favorite, those weirdly multi-sided pointy glass boxes with metal frames. My terrarium is in a ball jar,…

    How to Paint Needlepoint Canvas

    /

Did you know it’s pretty easy to make your own needlepoint canvas, or to transfer your own drawing or photo onto a needlepoint canvas? I used to pick up odd creative and craft jobs when I first graduated from art school, and painting needlepoint canvases was one of them. You can take pretty much any image and convert it by hand onto a woven white grid for cross stitch. The key to how to paint needlepoint canvas is patience. Needlepoint Canvas Painting Materials Blank Needlepoint Canvas * Acrylic Paint (I use Basic and Grumbacher, but any paint works) Very Tiny Paintbrushes Water Paint Palette (Plastic or Metal Tin, or a…

    Current Mood Board: A Walk

    /

Hard week! It’s been stressful for everyone. Does anyone else worry what other newsworthy events you are missing while Facebook feeds are flooded with one alarming political position after the other and subsequent backlash? To step away from it a little, try taking a walk. You could even listen to “A Walk” by Tycho, one of the best ways to de-stress and clear your mind. Or try to take a walk without even stepping outside the house. Wander after your inspiration. Here’s a mood board of artists and images I’ve been thinking about and crushing on this week on Pinterest. Join me down the rabbit hole. All links are art,…

Hello!

Artist and writer in Houston, painting my way through a slower kind of life. Likely By Sea is where the studio spills into everything else — watercolor and process, slow craft, whole-food cooking, coastal days, and the small style-and-living notes in between. Trained as a fine artist; the rest just follows the same eye.
