    Stand Up and Paddleboard

    /

Chris and I finally broke away from work life to go down to Matagorda together with the new stand up paddleboard. Since he just started a new job in Port La Vaca, he is down there almost every day. But for me, I am so busy with my job, yoga teacher training, and renovating the house, that it has been a while. The drive never bothers us. It’s only about an hour an a half to the beach, and Chris and I like taking the time to talk about this and that – local histories, photography, side-adventures. The water is almost warm enough to go in without a wetsuit. We…

    Yoga Teacher Training Book Reviews

    /

Yoga Teacher Training is well under way, and my book collection is steadily growing. I’m so excited to have finally started yoga teacher training. The majority of our training comes from the Joy Yoga University manual, but these books are my best friends for the five months of yoga teacher training. I have tons of other books on yoga to dig into and share, but these are the core books for me to really focus on for now. I respond well to learning from books.   Teaching Yoga: Essential Foundations & Techniques By Mark Stephens Teaching Yoga feels like the primary textbook for our yoga teacher training. There’s a chapter that…

    Spring Gardening

    /

One of my favorite things about Spring is planting season. Chris and I just moved into a house, and I’ve been eagerly waiting for the time when we could start our spring gardening. Since I’ve always lived in an apartment, I’ve been a devoted container gardener and this is my first time planting in the ground. Also, my last apartment didn’t get enough light to grow vegetables, so I’m so excited to be able to start growing tomatoes again! It turns out that Chris used to work on an organic farm. Not only does he know all about gardening in the ground, he also really likes to till the earth.…

    Dream Catcher

    /

“And open yourself to the new hopes and dreams of today.”   – Journey to the Heart by Melody Beattie Our dream catcher hangs on the porch. Do you know what your dreams are doing today? It’s good to have dreams. Sometimes it’s easy to get off track or not think of them often, when you are overtaken by the day to day. Occasionally we need to take the time to say goodbye to our dreams. Dreams are precious – they keep us looking into the future. But sometimes they do die, and it can be painful to let them go. Holding on to dead dreams is self-sabotaging. Their bitter loss fills up the…

    Whole30 Book Review

    /

The Whole30! Today I have officially completed the Whole30, and I actually wish that it weren’t over yet. I’m thinking about continuing this into a Whole60, and at the least integrating a paleo eating plan. I accomplished this with my yoga studio, Joy Yoga, which started a Whole30 clean eating challenge in March. It seemed like great timing to address my diet. I don’t eat too badly, but I do have a sweet tooth. And although I used to eat paleo, I had slowly given in to convenience over the past year or so. Joy had some great potlucks planned every Friday for participants to gather and share how their…

Hello!

Artist and writer in Houston, painting my way through a slower kind of life. Likely By Sea is where the studio spills into everything else — watercolor and process, slow craft, whole-food cooking, coastal days, and the small style-and-living notes in between. Trained as a fine artist; the rest just follows the same eye.
