    Snow Moon Penumbral Lunar Eclipse

Did you get a chance to catch the penumbral lunar eclipse last weekend? The February full moon is also known as the Snow Moon in Native American folklore, since it happens during the snowiest month of the year. The penumbral eclipse passed so quickly it was easy to miss! Texas is on Central Time, so we saw it at around 6:30pm Friday when I was just barely getting out of dance class. The Snow Moon lunar eclipse was particularly hard for me to catch because of the cloudiness of Houston skies. Chris caught this awesome pic while he was driving up from Port Lavaca though, capturing the red-tinted shadow moon…

What Is a Taurus Super Moon?

Did anyone else catch the Super Moon last night? A Super Moon occurs when a full moon is at the closest point to earth in its orbit – its perigee. This full moon looked bigger than usual, because it was! Literally. This Super Moon marked the closest the moon would come to the Earth for the next 18 years. The best time to catch the moon is in the early hours of the evening. As it rises, an optical illusion makes it appear bigger next to other objects on the horizon than it does when it is higher in the sky. The moon is freaking huge, but when it’s way…

    September Moon Calendar

It’s a little late, but my September Moon Calendar is finally done! As late summer rolls in, so do the hurricanes. Hopefully something will bring some waves our way. There hasn’t been much lately. A few weeks ago Hermine brought a little wave into the Gulf, but it was closer to Florida than Texas. The impact near us was fairly minimal. The air does feel a little cooler for September than it has been over the past few years. Maybe we’ll  have a cold winter this year! The downside to this is that when our air is cooler it’s less likely for hurricanes to build strength moving across the Gulf. However,…

    July Moon Calendar

July somehow crept up on me! Where does the time go? This July Moon Calendar is an update on last month’s June Moon Calendar, which was fun to make and I loved looking at all month on my phone. This calendar is the perfect size for either a desktop or a mobile background. I’ll be using it on my mobile phone screen as a reminder of when the full and new moon dates are coming up. The best time for surfing is just after the full and new moon. The waves clean up pretty nicely at the tail end of these times, or any storm. The layout is still influenced…

    June Moon Calendar Background 2016

I made this June Moon Calendar for myself this month, and liked it enough to share it. The design is so obviously drawn from the Free People moon calendar, which was designed by Holly Degan. She does such a great job on the Free People moon calendar collages! I love her moon calendar designs, and just wanted my phone background to feature that same design with a collage of pictures from our beach trips. Beach photos put me in such a good mood. This is sized for desktop computer, so I have it on both my phone and my work computer. Anyway, thanks for the inspiration Holly! Hopefully next month I can do a moon calendar…
