Friday Finds
Where did the week go? Yet another one flew by, and now it’s almost November! Every day this week I put my head down into work and when I blinked the day was already over. I almost feel like I missed it, but I did get so, so much work done. Plus, this is the first weekend that I don’t have big plans in over a month. Looking forward to being able to do whatever I want to with my time this weekend. Ok, that probably means surfing Sunday. It looks like the wind may be good for a few hours and make the waves fun. Hescher at White Oak Music Hall
Guess who played a show last weekend? Chris Landry! He was drumming with Hescher at White Oak Music Hall. Ok, I promise I’m not going to turn this blog into a review of every single one of Chris’s shows. The pictures turned out pretty cool though, so I wanted to put them up somewhere. I’m not going to apologize for the shitty iPhone quality. I’m not sorry. Sometimes the best camera is the one you have on you. The lead singer Cory Sinclair is super dramatic, so he makes really interesting shapes when he gets into performing. Chris’s kit was much closer to me this time. I hardly got any…

Hescher and Night Drive at the Nightingale Room
Guess what? Hescher and Night Drive played at the Nightingale Room in downtown Houston last week. Guess who played drums for Hescher? Chris! It was Chris. He’s super badass at the drums. That’s him spinning his sticks. Chris loves this battery. It will charge his phone forever and possibly jump his car? Table conversation. They say the sound system is good at the Nightingale Room. The Nightingale Room is one of those old buildings downtown on Main Street between Congress and Preston. There’s still a cobblestone road on the street. There’s so little of Houston that’s actually old. What was the venue before it was this? I don’t remember and…

Who’s Driving this Thing, Anyway? Common Yoga Metaphors
Joe Walsh, apparently. I spent too much time this weekend working on this drawing of a song I heard. It was probably worth it. When I was about 3/4 of the way through, I indignantly said to Chris “where did all of my ink go” since the pen was almost empty. He looked at the paper and replied, “It’s on the page”. Yes. It is. Lots of lines. Love these white opaque uniball pens for drawing on magazine paper. It’s a good thing I have 3 (well, now 2) of them. If you make it through this whole article, I’m impressed. Having a good grasp of the cultural narrative is…

Day for Night 2016 Part 2
Do you want it darker? Since the art and music festival fell right before Winter Solstice, Day for Night used early sundown to its advantage with more light installations both outside and inside this year. The festival is so ambitious in scale. You have to brave the crowds to see all of the art if you also want to catch the shows. We made it up to the second floor for a bit of time in the art installations on Sunday. The building was a nice haven considering how far the temperature dropped from the day before. Side note – did you know that there were tunnels in the old Post Office, where supervisors could…
