Who’s Driving this Thing, Anyway? Common Yoga Metaphors
Joe Walsh, apparently. I spent too much time this weekend working on this drawing of a song I heard. It was probably worth it. When I was about 3/4 of the way through, I indignantly said to Chris “where did all of my ink go” since the pen was almost empty. He looked at the paper and replied, “It’s on the page”. Yes. It is. Lots of lines. Love these white opaque uniball pens for drawing on magazine paper. It’s a good thing I have 3 (well, now 2) of them. If you make it through this whole article, I’m impressed. Having a good grasp of the cultural narrative is…

Best Notebooks of 2017
Now that 2017 is well underway, I wanted to loop back around on my organization situation to review where the cards – or rather notebooks – have fallen. What am I actually carrying around in my bag? Which notebooks do I write in every day? Do I have too many notebooks? Sure, some may say that. But I love them all. I’m not going to call out the ones that didn’t make it off the shelf, but these are really the best notebooks of 2017. Best Notebooks of 2017 Inkwell Press A5 Quarterly Planner I’m still going strong with the Inkwell Press Quarterly Planners. I used these last year and…

Barbarian Days Book Review + July Reading List
As promised – the Barbarian Days book review. I’ve finally finished Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life by William Finnegan. I’d had my eye on the book for a while, and when it won a Pulitzer Prize for autobiography this spring, it suddenly made it’s way into my hands. Surfing. Chris calls it “the fever”. As in “he has the fever” – the only way to describe someone known to disappear at a surf buoy’s notice. In case you didn’t notice from the blog photos, Chris has the fever. Finnegan has lived with the fever and will take you, the willing reader, on that journey with him. William Finnegan’s prose makes surf culture…

Dream a Little Dreamy Summer Dress
Do you ever put on one of those dresses that makes you feel like… a better woman? This midi-length summer dress from Anthropologie is my dreamy summer dress come true. It’s so flowy and ethereal, that one of my friends suggested someone follow me around with a fan for effect all day. Although, nature takes care of that. The lightweight fabric and light tan color perfectly forgives the melting summer heat of Texas. The weather changed from soggy flooding to wilting heat so quickly this year! I love the way the graphic stripes on the side of the dress contrasts with the Grecian draping effect from the ruches on the…

The Best Podcasts for Creative Inspiration
I listen to a lot of podcasts, given that now I have an one hour plus commute to and from work every day. This drive can be so grueling if I let it, and podcasts really help to lighten my mood. It’s especially fun to listen to an inspirational podcast on the way home, in order to journal or collage or draw once I’m there. The most common topics in the podcasts I listen to are the human condition, economics, creativity, and humor. 1. Magic Lessons I’m not going to lie. This podcast is my inspiration for creating this list! Like everything else that Elizabeth Gilbert does, Magic Lessons is SO…
