Tamarindo Sunsets

tamarindo sunsets

If you’ve ever visited Tamarindo, Costa Rica, you must have experienced the breathtaking view of the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean. Tamarindo sunsets have a flair for drama, washing everything with red and orange before quickly sinking on the horizon. Since the sun sets very early around six, everyone is still up and about to see the spectacle. Nature can be such a drama queen.

In looking through my photos from our trip to Tamarindo, I do wish I had carried my camera or my phone around more. This always happens. When we’re in the moment, I just want to let life be and not have the constant need to record everything. Now I wish I had more of those sunset photos, though! I have enough. Here are a few of my favorite sunset photos.

I’ve heard that if you look very closely and you are lucky, you may see a green ray just at the setting of the sun. Since the sun is a light source, sunsets include all of the colors in the visible spectrum. The green part is not always easy to see. Sometimes just before sunset or right before sunrise, a green spot is visible directly above the sun. It’s more likely that you can see this from an unobstructed view of the horizon, like over the ocean or a desert. If you see this flash of green, it’s said something truly special will happen that night. It’s very good luck.

For me, just watching the sun set over the ocean was enough. I’m so used to seeing it rise there! Although paradoxically, I may have enjoyed the sunrises more, since there are not as many people out and about for those. I love the promise of a new day.

You can bring a piece of a Tamarindo sunset or sunrise into your home. A photographer who lives there made a whole website called The Sunset Shop by Samba to the Sea for Costa Rica sunset photos. In this shop you can buy liquid sunsets printed on a pillow, blanket, or frame and escape to paradise.
