Off Shoulder Floral Top

Fall is officially here, and along with it my new favorite off shoulder floral top! This month is so all burgundy everything, and it makes a great neutral base for a print. The vintage-inspired floral print has a linear element that keeps it looking a little more contemporary than some of the other big romantic vintage floral prints. Florals are more of an obvious choice for spring than for fall, so it’s a nice surprise to see them around so much this season. I like the windingly romantic prints that are more modern, rather than something that looks at home on old wallpaper.

It still feels like summer in Houston, although the light is beginning to change. Hot temperatures are a breeze in this season’s off the shoulder looks. Even though this neckline has been around for a while, it’s still stretching it’s legs (or shoulders) in fall transitional styles.

What I like about this off the shoulder top – other than the burgundy color – is the bell sleeves and tunic waist. Elbow details give a little interesting embellishment that would usually be at the neckline in a top.

Another fun thing about off shoulder looks, is finding new ways to play with the neckline. I’m wearing one of those diy chokers I made. Chokers are the perfect length for this top. Pendant necklaces can be a little weird with the neckline, because they break the line of the top and fall awkwardly.

There are a few different styles out there of off shoulder tops. The one I’m wearing has a single elastic band. Throughout the day it can sneak up a bit into more of a scoop neck, which I actually like. More sturdy versions have thick elastic smocking, and looser ones with spaghetti straps give more of a cold shoulder look.
