I made this June Moon Calendar for myself this month, and liked it enough to share it. The design is so obviously drawn from the Free People moon calendar, which was designed by Holly Degan. She does such a great job on the Free People moon calendar collages! I love her moon calendar designs, and just wanted my phone background to feature that same design with a collage of pictures from our beach trips. Beach photos put me in such a good mood. This is sized for desktop computer, so I have it on both my phone and my work computer. Anyway, thanks for the inspiration Holly! Hopefully next month I can do a moon calendar concept that is a little more original 😉
This year, every month I’ve been keeping a calendar as the background on my phone. I started in January with Inkwell Press downloads that match my Quarterly Planner from them. Inkwell Press makes a really great monthly download if you like geometric patterns. They send it out for free in their email newsletter, so you have to catch it there if you want to see it.
A couple of months ago I started using Free People’s monthly moon calendar downloads. I like the moon calendar, because it’s an at-a-glance easy reminder for when the waves may be best. There’s a correlation between the moon and surfing. As a result of the force of the combined gravitational pull of the moon and the sun, waves tend to have the most contrast in high-lows during the full and new moon phases. There are other variables that also contribute to wave intensity, like nearby storms and seasonality. So, last Saturday we had decent waves coming on the tail end of the new moon, which my Moon Calendar gave me a nice heads-up on.
These are the inspirational beach photos from a day trip last month. As night fell, there was one single campfire on the horizon, with ominous storm clouds striking intermittent light in the background. We forgot to bring the tripod, so set up these long exposure shots by holding the camera very, very still. Chris is so patient.
