Will this Maui Girl Bikini surf? Yes, with some conditions.
First, Maui Girl bikinis are so cute! I love wearing this jade color. Just looking at it makes me feel energized and ready to take on whatever relentlessness the ocean has to throw at me today.
It’s a little tricky to order bikinis online. You don’t get to try it on, so you really have to go by online reviews to determine fit, etc. But, it’s pretty cool to order online and get a package in the mail from Hawaii. If I can’t travel there this year, I can at least style from there.
The Maui Girl cross-front halter bikini top is awesome. I wear it all the time. I wasn’t quite sure about it when I ordered it, because usually I go with a triangle string. The fabric is so, so, so soft and the cut makes it a little sturdier than a triangle top. I don’t think I would want to surf in it without layering over it, because it doesn’t have a cross back. Given that, Maui Girl does have plenty of bikini styles with a cross-back and also one-piece styles that would be suitable for surfing in. When I surf in this bikini I layer it under my wetsuit. I also like to wear it to and fro-ing the beach. The halter style is really easy to deal with during a quick wardrobe change. Since the ties are on the thicker side, they’re sturdy and easy to handle.
The Maui Girl Makena Bikini bottoms are on the same wave as the halter top (haha). I’ll layer over them, but wouldn’t go in the surf in them. They are so comfortable, but probably not sturdy enough for big waves even if I cinch up the sides. Be aware that these Brazilian cut bottoms are a little skimpy. If you wear them, you will avoid what’s called “diaper butt”, but you might get a lot of stares, especially if you are on a beach in a more conservative place like Texas. Slimmer cut bottoms are more popular in tropical destinations. Most of the time when I’m on the beach, it’s just me, my boyfriend, and random fishermen. I’ll wear these at a beachside pool or resort where there are other women, but wouldn’t romp around solo in the waves in them. They are so cute and comfortable though!
The Ken Block Spy Sunglasses carry the green of the swimsuit well in the lens and frame. I made the bracelets myself from some bead collected by friends on a road trip across Texas to Colorado. Aren’t they cute? I’ll do a DIY soon. If you haven’t heard about Bull Frog sunscreen, it’s a performance active sunscreen that can be found in many convenience stores. You can bet it will hold up in the water so you don’t get a sunburn. The Mophie waterproof extended battery phone case is still a lifesaver! I don’t know what I would do without this dear phone case. It has been dropped, spilled on, gone in the water, taken countless photos, and been attached at my hip since it came out of the box. The extended phone battery lasts longer than a day, so I don’t have to worry about needing to recharge my phone on the beach.
Bottom Line: Maui Girl bikinis are a yes. See you in the water!
