March Mood Board: Live a Little

greenhouse mood board

Is it Spring yet? I’m so ready for the second half of March. The winter space between December and early spring is so full of waiting. For longer days, warmer air, less… sticks everywhere. We don’t get winter in Houston so much as everything turns to sticks. But that’s changing. It’s not dark when I leave the office anymore, which is so energizing. Is anyone else ready to get outside again?

I started my yearly herb garden seeds. This year it’s all about edible flowers. There’s something almost savage about eating flowers, like it’s taboo. Flowers are meant to be looked at, not chewed. Their flavor is often unexpected. While petals are conventionally beautiful, they can taste spicy or earthy or even bitter depending on the part of the flower. And sweet. They certainly make for beautiful pastries. More on that later.

Live a little. Take some risks.

But not too risky. Seriously, don’t hang an aerial apparatus on a tree limb over a lake or on a random greenhouse bar. There’s no way to know if it can handle the force of your weight if you do drops and tricks. If you want to hang an aerial apparatus outside, get some outdoor rigging. Over the past few months a turn of events walked me back into aerial fabrics. If everything goes well, I should be in a show at the Houston Grand Opera this spring with about thirty other aerialists. Who would have thought when this aerial adventure started four and a half years ago that I might be on stage at the Houston Grand Opera? Not me, that’s for sure.
