Infused Spa Water Recipes

Drinking infused spa water helps me keep up with my recommended water intake. Part of working on my yoga practice includes staying hydrated. I’m not always the best at this. It’s not that I have anything against water, it’s just that I love coffee. And tea. Both of which are desiccants, so although they are mostly made up of water they are also working to dehydrate even more.

Staying hydrated is an important part of yoga not only to replenish fluids lost during practice, but also because your muscles can stretch more when they are properly hydrated. If you don’t drink water, then yoga practice will basically be like trying to stretch out a piece of beef jerky. Drinking plenty of water will help you feel better and reduce headaches, so you can focus your attention on the yoga practice itself. Most yoga classes are less than 90 minutes, so we don’t really need to drink water during the practice. Usually when we take a “water break” during practice, it’s we are trying to cool down or avoid the challenging pose that the class is in. So I’m working on drinking more water during and after yoga, in order to focus on the asana during the class.

How much water should you drink every day? There isn’t really a straightforward answer for this. Most health authorities recommend eight 8-ounce glasses, or half a gallon.

That is a lot of plain, boring water for me. So, to make it more exciting I’ve been making these infused spa water recipes. These recipes are so easy to make. You literally just have to add a little fruit or herbs to your water. And, they make great brunch or party drinks. Two of my favorite recipes are lemon-mint-cucumber water, and grapefruit-orange-lemon water. So refreshing! As always, organic and fresh ingredients are recommended.

Grapefruit Orange Lemon Infused Water

Ingredients:

1/2 lemon
1/2 orange
1/2 grapefruit

Instructions:

Wash ingredients thoroughly. With a paring knife, slice the fruits lengthwise in thin circles. Discard the ends. Add the lemon, orange, and grapefruit to your carafe. Fill the carafe with filtered water, and let sit in the fridge for 2 hours. As you drink down the infused water, you can continue to add more filtered water to the carafe. The ingredients will continue to add flavor. Infused water stays good for about 3 days.

Lemon Mint Cucumber Infused Water

Ingredients:

1/2 lemon
1/2 cucumber
sprigs of mint

Instructions:

Wash ingredients thoroughly. Peel the cucumber. With a paring knife, slice the cucumber and the lemon lengthwise in thin circles. Discard the ends. Add the cucumber and mint to your carafe. With your fingers, pinch the leaves of the sprigs of mint and add them to your carafe too. The young mint leaves will taste a little bit better. Also, I like to try different types of organic mint varieties from my herb garden. Chocolate mint is the best! Fill the carafe with filtered water, and let sit in the fridge for 2 hours.

In case you’re looking for a little more inspiration, here are a few of my favorite infused water recipes from Pinterest:

Blood Orange and Thyme by Mom Foodie

Ingredients:

Blood Orange, Thyme

I love the way this recipe also includes information about the health and nutritional benefits of blood orange and thyme. This spa water will support liver health, stimulate the metabolism, and boost your mood. You can easily find thyme at the grocery store, but this could also be another great herb to harvest from an herb garden.

Lavender Lemonade by Eat Yourself Skinny

 Ingredients:

Agave, Lavender, Lemons

This lavender lemonade is so cute! Lavender is my favorite flower and scent. It is always so soothing and lovely. The recipe calls for sugar, but I prefer to just add extra agave or enjoy the bitterness.
