This year Summerfest was moved to the NRG Stadium, home of the old Astrodome, because of historical flood levels near Eleanor Tinsley Park. Chris was working on one of the main stages, so I didn’t see him much.
Good things about the new location:
NRG Park is well equipped to handle large crowds coming and going. I didn’t have to wait 2 hours to get out of the parking lot this year 🙂
More quickly able to move between the stages
Bad things about the new location:
The stages were all flat, so it was difficult to see the bands. At Eleanor Tinsley Park, the stages are mostly set up around hills that serve as natural amphitheater seating, so people in the back can still see the band. As a result, I didn’t get many pictures of the bands playing this year.
But you know what? I’m a little tired of my band photos from Summerfest. They all really look the same. There’s another musician playing, and another band photo that looks pretty much like every other band photo out there. This year I spent most of my photography time documenting the crowd.
